The kingdom of Prambanan was attacked by the Pengging kingdom and ruled over harshly. The king's daughter, Roro Jonggrang, was desired to be wed by the cruel new ruler, Bandung Bondowoso. To avoid this, Roro Jonggrang challenged Bandung Bondowoso to build one thousand temples in one night with the help of his genie soldiers. Though nearly completed, Roro Jonggrang tricked the genies into thinking dawn had arrived, causing them to flee.
