Fashion of Lunar New Year is identical to the cheongsam, either in colors has characteristics of the red, pink or pastel colors. But do you know that kebaya is one of the Chinese Peranakans’ acculturation?

According to Vielga Wennida, one of Kebaya’s designers, Kebaya Peranakans does no longer exist. Therefore, she is passionate to revive this heritage by designing Kebaya that flawless with wearing skirts, pants or jeans.  

"In fact, it can be used for day-to-day or special occasion such as Lunar New Year," said Vielga during fashion show of Peranakans Prosperity at Mall Taman Anggrek West Jakarta Friday, FEBRUARY 13, 2015 then.

She mentioned this kebaya are mostly inspired by flowers and animals’ embroidery tie-dyed which taken from coastal culture colors such as pastel soft or pure. "By using material 100% cotton, foal, rayon, silk crêpe, Paris, chiffon, however cotton and foal material is usually chosen," explained Vielga.

Kebaya Peranakans looks gorgeous wearing pearls or gold jewelers, all depends on your needs but don't overdo it, she is giving some tips.

“Either using formal gown or long dress touched by cultural elements such as Batik Pekalongan or Surabaya woven, or wearing elegant Kebaya Peranakans all are the best fit ideal for your charming good looking looks.”
