The Jury Selected 60 Exquisite Samarinda Batik Design

SAMARINDA, KOMPAS.com – The Jury are now selecting 60 exquisite Samarinda’s Batik design which being contested.

Today, the first assessment meeting competition is being done and the team will continue to work on 60 incoming design, which represent Samarinda heritage. It is planned that on first week of September will be announced its six nominee, said HM Faisal, Head of Department of Culture & Tourism, and Communication Information Samarinda Province, on Thursday.

The Board of Jury, added Faisal, consists of the Head of Department of Culture & Tourism and Communication and Information of Samarinda, Puji Setyowati as the Chairman of the Board of the National Regional Handicrafts (Dekranasda) of Samarinda, the humanitarian Syafril Teha Noer, an artisan Hamdani and former fashion model which is also a member of parliament, Rina A Barito, academicians lecturer of University of Mulawarman, Faculty of Culture Science, Awang Khalik, as well as the Kaltim Batik pioneer, Yuswar.

The top six nomination design must be manifested in the form of batik cotton size 250x110 cm sides. The announcement of the winner will be held on Mahakam Festival, said Faisal.

The competition was started in June 2012 in collaboration with Batik Community Youth Coordinator Area of Samarinda, aims to find the exquisite pattern of Samarinda Batik.

'Not only participants from Samarinda and other region in East Borneo, but also took attention of participants from several regions around Indonesia', he explained.

Many designers come from Bekasi, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Central Java, Surabaya and Medan. Each nominee sent two and more motives, in average”, said HM Faisal.

The first winner will be awarded the Mayor’s Cup of Samarinda and management fund 15 million, while five other best-work get trophy and cash two million each.

The 15 million’s gift is included the patent copyright to reproduced. Thus, on the Anniversary of Samarinda, the masterpiece can be performed and can be used as an official uniform.
