Flags from 109 participating countries in the 60th Commemoration of the historic Asian African Conference of 1954 were raised at the Merdeka Building, venue of the Asian African Conference Museum in Bandung, West Java. The flags were hoisted by Bandung's boys and girls scouts on Wednesday, 15th April 2015 symbolizing the city’s readiness to host this historical commemoration.
“The raising of the 109 flags is our initiative to show that Bandung is truly ready to host the grand 60th commemoration of the Asian African Conference” stated Head of the Asian African Museum, Thomas A. Siregar as quoted from tempo.co. He further added that every year during the commemoration of this formidable historic Conference, flags of delegations who attended the Asian- African Conference were hoisted over the Merdeka Building, highlighting the city.
The flag raising ceremony took place at 07:00 West Indonesia Time involving 250 scouts who were carefully chosen through a strict selection process.
The flag raising ceremony also attracted the public’s enthusiasm who crowded around to follow the ceremony. Many also took the opportunity to take “selfies” with the special ambience of the Asian African Conference commemoration as background, in particular along the rows of flag poles.
