Jakarta. Swedish furniture giant IKEA will soon open business in Indonesia. Its first store will be located in Alam Sutra, South Tangerang, in the west of Jakarta metropolitan.
“I am not able to inform the exact (opening) date because the final preparation step is still being done. We want to ensure the variation of stocks of our product is guaranteed, in terms of quantity and quality, before we inform the public,” Said IKEA Indonesia General Manager, Mark Magee in Jakarta, as quoted by Kompas.com (23 Sep 2014).
According to Magee, IKEA is investing millions of US dollar to open its Indonesian network. They are also complying with the regulation, including the use of domestic products.
“The food product, bakso as an example, is 100 persen made with meat from Indonesia,” said Magee.
When compared to IKEA branches in other countries, the Indonesian branch is unique. Magee shared that in Indonesia, there is a togetherness and familial value, inspired by the local culture.
“The people here are unique, and this is what also makes us unique. One thing that stands out is the togetherness in a community,” shared Magee.
Meanwhile, on Ikea’s choice of location to open store at Alam Sutra, Mark Magee had shared that the company could not find a better location in the centre of Jakarta.
“We could not find a spacious location with reasonable price in the centre of Jakarta. Trust me, what once seemed a far, in the few years will become close,” said the IKEA Indonesia General Manager.
