The Great Panji Asmorobangun Folklore Paintings Exhibited in Rusia

Jakarta, Perhaps not many people know about the Indonesian folklore Asmorobangun Panji, from the royal Jenggala. Though the story of the legend will be on display in the Great Painting Exhibition in Moscow Russia.

Exhibition of paintings measuring 1 x 60 m was held in cooperation with Museum of Decorative and Folk Crafts, the Museum of Eastern Art and Puppet Theatre Academy SV Obrastsov in Moscow. The exhibition was held to welcome the APEC summit in Vladivostok, on September 2 to 9, 2012 and Indonesia's Chairmanship in 2013. The exhibition was held related to further Indonesia's leadership in APEC.

As reported by the Russian Embassy, Thursday (30/08/2012), the Great Panji is painted by the humanist - Taufik Razhen, from Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Bali. Painting with a cream base color is composed of 23 episodes, each containing a love story between Banner Asmorobangun (from the Kingdom Jenggala, Kediri) and Princess Candrakirana or Goddess Sekartaji (from Kingdom of Daha).

Folklore that developed in East Java in the 7th to the 15th century is alike Romeo and Juliet epic, which tells the love story between two young people whose romantic couple. All 23 episodes are painted in the 2 sides of the fabric width of 1 m and a length of 60 m with very strong colorful.

In his speech, Director of the Museum, Alexander Sysoenko emotionally conveyed his happiness, even though this exhibition slightly delays considering its extravagant size, finally this paintings exhibition can be organized.

While Djauhari Oratmangun Ambassador in his speech said that the Panji stories and puppet shows only a small part of a very diverse culture of Indonesia as well as the diversity of Russian culture and art.

"If you want to know more about the art and culture of Indonesia, visiting Indonesia is the best way to get to know Indonesian culture directly", said Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun which drew standing ovation among audience in the Opening.

In the showroom where the paintings were displayed, visitors can also directly try to play a musical instrument angklung and gamelan are prepared by the Embassy in Moscow and followed enthusiastically by visitors and the media that present. Exhibition of paintings Andaken Penurat-Flag-Young Prince which opened on August 28, 2012 is scheduled to be held until the end of September 2012 and taken its road-show to several other cities, including Vladivostok and Saint Petersburg. Besides attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and other invited guests, the opening of the exhibition was attended by dozens of Russian journalists both print and electronic media.

Panji epics that develop from East Java outspread to various parts of the national archipelago (Bali, Sunda, Lombok, Kalimantan until Melayu) is less attractive compered to Ramayana or Mahabharata despite its popularity. Panji folklore is limited among people of East Java, before it eventually spread through word of mouth to the Malay region and even to Southeast Asia.

Giant paintings contains Panji Epics on display was taken visitors attention. In addition to the extravagant size, the painting in each episode that made is very interesting and detailed. Panji character portrayed with his trademark hat called "Tekes", with half-naked upper body while using a folded fabric over His thighs. The Painting of The Prince of the Kingdom of Jenggala, Kediri is seemed to spell his charm to every visitor of the exhibition.

To complete the Panji Paintings, the museum also displays a number of puppets and masks. Puppet figures shown quite comprehensive, ranging from Arjuna, Bhima, Billy Glass, Goddess Draupadi to the Cepot of West Java.
