Balikpapan- Development of Balikpapan Sepinggan International Airport, which has been built since mid 2011, has cost up to Rp 2 trillion more. Ascertained to be completed March 22, 2014 and will be unlocked or enabled on March 24, 2014. The ceremony is scheduled to be inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), March 27, 2014.

Work accomplishment of Sepinggan airport, which is now the third biggest airport in Indonesia, has entered the stage of 90 percent. While 10 percent of the under construction building will be completed by the date of March 21, 2014. This was stated by the International Airport Development Project Leader of Sepinggan Airport, PT Angkasa Pura I Balikpapan, Hadi Purnomo Taouchid to Balikpapan Post, yesterday.

Taouchid explained, that 10 percent of the construction phase is currently underway and will be completed in the specified time such as, construction of retaining walls, roads, flyovers, existing front gate infrastructure (5/3), fasade, glass, gnase building, electronics and parking systems, as well as the bridge connection. Also, work of commissioning test equipment, systems integration up to general commissioning test. Continued verification conducted by the Civil Aviation Department and soon operation of the new airport will be opened on March 24, 2014," he said. (Sp-5)
