Mayor: Balikpapan Botanical Garden, Heritage for residents of the World
Balikpapan, Humaspro - Botanical Garden Balikpapan (KRB) which is located in the village Karang Joang, North Balikpapan, was inaugurated. A number of officials among other Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Public Works, Djoko Kirmanto, Chairman of Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), Lukman Hakim, and Governor of East Kalimantan Awang Faroek Ishak and other invitees present the inauguration of a botanical garden, that is located in Km 15 connecting Balikpapan – Samarinda area.
"With all due respect, Balikpapan Botanical Gardens are belongs to the world, citizens of Balikpapan, and the whole society. Through resources and efforts, we play initial role for Balikpapan Botanical Gardens development, "said Balikpapan Mayor, Rizal Effendi.
The now become a fruitful Balikpapan previously, it was formerly forest fires that occurred in East Kalimantan in around the year 1980, then Imdaad Hamid (Former Balikpapan Mayor - red) defending this area happen to Balikpapan Botanical Gardens.
Currently, the area is approximately 309 hectares, designed to be center of forest conservation, education and also home for visitors in Conservation Forest Areas, Wain River. The working plan itself has begun last 2015 in collaboration with Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) and Center for Plant Conservation of Bogor Botanical Gardens.
We express our sincere gratefulness to Ministry of Public Works for their kind assistance to obtain certain infrastructures, also tribute to Bogor Botanical Gardens look alike,” said mayor.
Inauguration is marked by epigraph signing by the Minister of Forestry, Minister of Public Works, the Chairman of LIPI, and Governor of East Kalimantan continued with fish sowing seeds in Wein basins. (Hms/team report)
